Our “Whole Wealth” Approach

We work with our clients first to understand them as a unique whole person – their financial, work and life goals, aspirations and motivations, and their current situation.

We support them to preserve and then build their “whole wealth” with a view to giving them peace of mind by having an appropriate and adaptable “whole wealth strategy”, synthesising a financial and life plan designed around securing long-term prosperity (in a holistic multi-dimensional wealth context) for them, their families, and any wider business and/or collective impact-oriented interests and goals they may have.

Our clients value the opportunity to take a bespoke strategic whole wealth approach to their life and financial affairs at every stage of their “hero’s journey”. People who want to be proactive about living the life they want, and who appreciate our attention to their bigger picture and the detail, and our listening, understanding, insights and responsiveness that come from a suitable, seasoned and skilled whole wealth partner, puts them in a desirable place to realise their desired future.

We work with a limited number of select clients, including those with sustainability, Environmental, Social, and Governance and/or impact motivations in their investment planning decisions, meaningfully contextualised and tracked. For example, this could include a mixture of the SJP Sustainable and Responsible Equity fund and non-SJP funds via the SJP Discretionary Fund Management Service*. Appropriately limiting the number of clients per wealth manager enables us to provide the comprehensive attention required, and of course to build the trust that truly bespoke whole wealth management demands.  We believe that our clients want a service that is as simple as it needs to be, transparent, holistic and effective. We use a straightforward four-point process designed to fully and systematically assess, integrate, organise, deploy and monitor the ongoing management of our clients’ wealth.

* Rowan Dartington provide this service and are the Discretionary Fund management and Stockbroking arm of St. James's Place, which is wholly owned by the St. James's Place Group.     The value of an investment with St. James's Place or Rowan Dartington may fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested.

Our core process for your whole wealth management:

1. Envision your desired future

Firstly, we want to understand your big picture and what drives you. The value of an effective whole wealth client partner is in assisting you to visualise, in a realistic manner, the lifestyle that you wish to enjoy at projected stages in your life, and the goals you want to achieve. Naturally, there are personal considerations, such as age, income, family responsibilities and attitude to risk that will affect this view as well as your lifestyle aspirations. This is a strategic process for which disciplined long-term whole wealth planning is required.

2. Evaluate your current situation

This requires full transparency from you because it has a direct bearing on the suitability of the planning and advice process, in order to act in your best interests with the information known at that time. Your whole wealth client partner will consult with you to create a comprehensive picture of your financial circumstances, within your larger life context, including income and expenditure, assets and liabilities. Only when your present position is known can your future be properly planned.

3. Enable a whole wealth strategy that will meet your needs

The journey from where you are now to where you want to arrive will inevitably be complicated by numerous factors and changes experienced throughout a busy life, both inside and outside of one’s direct influence. Your whole wealth client partner will assist in organising what you need to do, and “nudge” you as and when appropriate, aiming to achieve your planned objectives. This is a systematic, iterative, holistic process that requires medium and long-term attention to the detail of your ongoing whole wealth circumstances.

4. Ongoing whole wealth management for you and future generations

Your whole wealth well-being needs ongoing attention, for the life you want and for the flourishing of future generations too – familial and/or otherwise. Gaining desired outcomes from your wealth requires the patient and disciplined application of your whole wealth strategy and financial plan that will almost certainly require adjustment over the years. Like the cultivation of a beautiful and varied garden, different elements such as the soil, shrubs, flowering plants, and especially trees, will take longer than others to grow into their full splendour. Similarly, reviewing and reflecting on the effectiveness of your plan is a multi-year endeavour; however, there is always a recognition and appreciation of the value of doing so.

The value of an investment with St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select and the value can therefore go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.
