I haven't always been the clear, focused, powerful business leader I am today. Oh my goodness...far from it.
When I started my business, I was just like any other solo-preneur. I hung out my "shingle" and waited for customers to find me. I waited. And waited. And waited.

The blending of our experiences and skills started with working on both the client side, as the folks who own the brand, as well as the service side, an agency that serves the needs of the brand. The experience unto itself was unique and illuminating. We had an intimate view, ringside seats at the circus of big business.

Together, Vito and I produced a wide range of creative products—from logos, to print advertising, to award winning broadband web experiences, to interactive CD-Rom consumer games, to TV shows.We managed projects of every size, from multi-million dollar ventures with hundreds of team members, down to gigs worth a few thousand dollars with one designer.

Our clients were struggling with the same things too. Regardless of their size, THEY couldn't get off their painful merry-go-rounds either!You're not going to believe what happened next.
We became spies! We were on a secret mission for small businesses. We didn't intend this—but we knew that true power in the world lies with the independent businesses of the world; not the massive multi-nationals who happened to be most of our clients. That's why the name for our award-wining production company that we started together in 1991 is called Why Communications. This is when we were led to shear genius...which lead us to YOU right now..
And so the "whys" began... It all began...by asking WHY!
Why # 1 Why can't you handle the truth?
No matter what the issue, project, or client, we learned how to guide each project to its perfect, powerful solution.
Being the hired gun for Fortune 500 companies sounds exciting, but keep in mind that with executives in large corporations, security and politics rule. Small business isn't exempt either.
When financial resources are tight; entrepreneurs simply want the perfect answer and don't understand their own power in arriving at that perfect answer.
Whether working with entrepreneurs or corporate executives, whatever the issue, neither were willing to own any decision.
How could they know whether the concept, art or communication was right or not? To them it's better if they didn't know, that way if there was any opposition or poor results, they could simply fold and...kill the messenger. You know...the one that was trying to help.
"But I'm just not creative..."
Here are three reasons why entrepreneurs and corporate executives couldn't handle the truth:

For the most part, big companies can get away with this. Deep pockets often deliver mediocre results. Just blame the current team and get another team. A "Don Quixote of La Mancha quest" for the impossible state of 100% consensus.
You and I both know just how impossible that is...you can't please everyone all the time on any issue.
On one project for a major Hollywood studio, executives assigned three teams to concept development, each of which spent tens of thousands of dollars. And guess what happened? The executives could not make a decision, so guess what happened next? NOTHING!
Have you ever seen an Account Executive from a major world-class agency run down the hall crying? I have and it's not pretty!
At some point in your business, I'll bet you've said, "I'll know it when I see it," then unable to decide, you go to your hairdresser or a buddy to pick.
That makes no sense. No matter how good or how award-winning the creative, most business owners can't be persuaded to own and command the power of creation over their businesses. If the Universe truly worked like that, our existence would end. There's only one God in your Universe and that is YOU!—and you have to own that power.

With such vivid experiences of our clients' problems—all those lemons—we knew we must be very close to some really great lemonade: a solution that would work for everyone in every situation.
We asked many more whys...
Why couldn't entrepreneurs who found their way to us ...
Operate with clarity and focus?
Feel that they WERE creative?
Realize that they knew the right answers for themselves?
Believe they could do anything—especially create the business of their dreams?
Realize they could actually develop a business that would enable the kind of life they wanted— freedom, recognition and expression?

We witnessed first hand that SOME clients could easily own their power, so why couldn't ALL of them?
Something must be getting in the way.
The path to the answer revealed itself
There are only two places to find the answers to make a business successful: internally or externally. Counter to most sales and marketing professionals, we knew better than to trust the external path. The external point always moves, therefore is not reliable. "Focus testing" can give you any answer you want based on the question you ask and how you ask it; and a capable sales effort can sell anything. We knew these to be true.
Our decision to look inward was reinforced by our personal development work, which clearly was encouraging introspection, connection to source, oneness and intention.
Wouldn't you know...something really powerful happened
If we are ALL one, we all have access to all the knowledge of the Universe, right? And if ALL of us are unique emanations of it, what is stopping some people from harnessing this power?
Do you just blindly believe? Is it just magic? The questions started really flowing...
Why do some business owners use free will to its full advantage and others don't?
How does the mind make a decision?
What role does the higher purpose or intention of a business owner have?
What are the universal fundamentals at play in our existence that make every business work?
Why is it that when the two of us blend into a single creative force, it is greater than the sum of our parts?
Is there a way to align dreams and aspirations to a business so the owner can know what to do, and when—no matter what?
Guess what? It wasn't magic after all
Now we were moving in a direction that seemed light years away from the original problem we sought to fix. Or, were we getting amazingly close?
Yes, yes our clients lacked belief, but truly their biggest problem was:
They couldn't even see what was missing—what was causing their problems—no matter how hard they tried.
So why could we see what they couldn't? Were we really that special? I'm not sure about that, but we were uniquely suited to solving the puzzle because...
- We observed the traps our clients were falling into (we fell into them too, we were not exempt)...
- We had a collective experience of communications, engineering, architectural, design, production, and business...
- We noticed that when we combined our linear and holistic thought patterning, we got superior results every single time...
- We were engaged with personal development gurus and evolutionary theorists and correlated what they were 'talking around' but never said directly...
And we knew...we found the answer!
We secretly tested a repeatable process on all of our clients
without them even knowing it
Our work with clients changed forever—and our clients changed...for the better. While we were still in our services business, not teaching the processes like we do today, we started applying the process we discovered to every project no matter what it was or how large or small.
Whether the client was new or a previous one, corporate or entrepreneurial, with broad or narrow issues, deploying huge or tiny teams, paying big dollars or just a few thousand, dysfunctional, oblivious or afraid, we put EVERY CLIENT through the same process. It was a perfect clinical trial.

When a key element is missing, it's as if you are standing on one square of a four-square puzzle. You take the square you are are standing on for granted, so you are aware of only three—hence the blind spot. And that fourth square, the one you can't see, can make it impossible for any thing you want to create to happen—including your business.
